Northland places 3rd at Quadrangulars

The Northland Junior Quadrangular team all arrived in Taupo on the Friday afternoon/evening which was slow going at times for all ( yes we blame Auckland traffic!).  The kids soon got settled into the camp ground and were soon making use of the great swimming facility at the camp ground and being close to the Squash courts was great.

We played Auckland first up on Saturday morning and this was always going to be a tough match up with so many of their players being a lot higher graded than ours, that did not stop our kids playing their hearts out and we lost some close matches, losing the tie 3-17. Saturday afternoon we played Waikato and even though we went down 8-12 the games were so close and if we had managed to win one or 2  of the 5,  5 set battles we had it might have been a different story.

Sunday morning saw us play off with BOP for the 3rd/4th place and our kids really stepped up to the plate and we took the tie 11-9 – a little too close for some of our nerves.

We farewell a number of our juniors from the quads ( Finn Trimble, Shayden Toka and Olivia Brookland) as they will all be out of juniors by the next quad event, so we would like to thank them for the time and effort they have put in to Northland Squash Juniors and hope they are still on the court for many years to come.

Northland Squash has a great number of juniors coming along and we will be getting stronger each year. We are always going to battle against those provinces that have a lot more players than we do but we say “quality not quantity”
