The North Island Junior Age Group Champs were held at Mitchell Park in Wellington last weekend.
Northland had 9 juniors travelling to this big event and for a couple of them this was their first taste of a National event. The tournament was a success for Northland with 8 of our players finishing in the top 10 of their age groups.
Northland had 2 podium finishes with Zoe Dykzeul making her second final in 2 weeks , after taking out the South Island Under 17s the previous weekend Zoe had to settle for 2nd place this time in the Under 17s girls after going down fighting against top seed Anna Hughes in 4 sets.
Freddie Jameson came 3rd in the Under 11 boys, winning a close 5 setter in his play off, this follows on from his win in the Under 11 South Islands Champs.
MacKenzie Johnson was defeated in the quarter finals of the under 17 girls but came back strongly to take out 5th place.
Finn Trimble was knocked out of the Under 17 boys in his quarter final losing a tight 5 setter that which was a marathon battle. Shayden Toka also competed in the under 17 boys.
Sian Duggan competed in the Under 19 girls and won the plate division (9th place), while Annemarie Holst ended up 5th in the Under 15 girls winning a massive 5 set battle in the play off.
Riley-Jack Vette Blomquist and Devlin Gurr were both in the Under 13 boys division and both took out higher seeds in the first round that put them both in the final 8. After both going down in their quarter final matches they both bounced back to play off with each other for the 5th and 6th positions, with Riley-Jack winning this battle.
