Northland Secondary Schools Teams Tournament

Whangarei Boys High and Whangarei Girls won the Northland Secondary Schools teams event which was held at Whangarei Squash Club last Thursday.

With 33 teams entered from around Northland and 3 players in each team, it was a busy but very enjoyable day of squash with many players trying out squash for the first time.

It was a battle of two Whangarei Boys High teams in the final of the Boys Open with the WBHS Red team of Riley-Jack Vette Blomquist, Cory Ferguson and Ethan Hare proving a bit too strong in the end over the WBHS Gold team of Ned Saunders, Maz Saunders and Brad Moselen.

In the Girls Open Whangarei Girls High had a close battle with Otamatea College with the match going to the last game after Annmarie Holst (Otamatea) won her match against WGHS Shea Ferguson.  Amy Brown then levelled the score for WGHS, winning her game against Ocean Shadbolt, leaving it down to the game between Ruby Collins and Jessie Allen to determine the winner with Ruby taking the match and WGHS the title.

The Boys Novice division was won by Rodney College, the Girls Novice by Whangarei Girls High School 3, and the Mixed team event was again taken out by Rodney College.
