New Zealand claimed the Junior Trans-Tasman Test Series after defeating Australia in a closely contested battle winning 19 matches to 17 over 2 days in the Gold Coast recently.
Northland players Zoe Dykzeul and Finn Trimble played for New Zealand in both test matches, with Zoe winning both her matches comfortably and Finn winning one of his.
The Oceania Junior Championships were played prior to the test matches, with New Zealand only managing to take out one title – the under 13 boys which was won by Joe Smythe of Tauranga. There was a strong contingent of players from Malaysia who were dominant in many of the age groups and claimed a lot of the titles, the Australians were also strong on their home turf under the hot summer conditions.
In the individuals, Zoe Dykzeul played extremely well to place 3rd in the Under 17 girls, coming across the No 1 seeded Malaysian and eventual Under 17 girls winner, in her semifinal but Zoe went on to win her 3rd 4th playoff in a close battle.
Freddie Jameson was 5th in the Under 11 boys, Riley-Jack Vette Blomquist 10th in the Under 13 boys, Finn Trimble 13th in the Under 19 boys . Abbie Palmer was runner up in the Under 19 girls.
