Whangarei Boys High win NZ Secondary Schools Championship

Six Whangārei Boys' High School students made history by winning the New Zealand Secondary Schools Team Championship squash title

Whangarei Boys High School made history by winning their first ever NZ Squash Championship title at the NZ Secondary Schools Squash Nationals, beating Auckland Grammar School 3-2 in the final.  The boys went in as top seeds and the final was their closest match after winning their semi-final against Hamilton Boys High 4-1.
The team was:  Freddie Jameson, Maz Saunders, Flynn Venmore, Cam Griffin, Josh Laing, Luca Smith.
The winning team, who range from Year 10 to Year 13, had the advantage of having started playing together in the Manaia Squash Club junior programme in Whangārei Heads and are all part of the Whangarei Boys High Squash Academy,
Maz Saunders (senior team) and Josh Laing (junior team) have been selected into the NZ Secondary Schools team to play Australia.
The Whangarei Girls High team had a good win to place 3rd at the nationals with Chelsea Traill (senior), Hayley Rhodes and Montana Vette-Blomquist (junior) all being named non travelling reserves in the NZ team. Chelsea also won the Fair Play Award!
The WBHS #2 team placed 12th with the Rodney College Boys (attending their first tournament) placing 24th.
