The Whangarei C Grade mens team won the 2020 national Superchamps C Grade title
Last week the Whangarei Mens C grade team travelled down to Napier to compete in the National Superchamps finals tournament. The team consisted of Flynn Venmore, Sam Dykzeul , Alex Greatorex, Cam Griffin, Ben Sweeny and Andrew Venmore. They took out the title in style with five convincing back to back wins and were too strong for the Surf City team in the final winning by 4 matches to 1. The only other time that the Whangarei club have won a men’s Superchamps title was 34 years ago back in 1986 when they also won the mens C Grade.
The Mangakahia D Grade mens team (Troy Ruddell, Glen Quinn, Jason Parker, Wayne Brown, Leroy Shelford, Emile Stevenson) headed down to the Marlborough Squash Club where they had a flying start with 3 out of 3 wins, topping their pool, then had a tough loss in the semi finals to top seeded Greymouth 3-2 before bouncing back to win 3/2 and place a credible 3rd.
